This is an Early 1900's, Cast Iron Window Grate, with the bars in a diamond pattern. These old grates were used in the early days, for openings in the basement foundation, to allow air to circulate through the dirt cellars. Years later, homes were built with windows in the foundation, instead of the grates. This is a great, original piece of architectural salvage would be a perfect addition to your garden, or to compliment your rustic décor. The possibilities are endless!
The grate measures approx. 18-1/2" wide x 11" tall. The thickness of the cross hatch section of cast iron is 1/2".
Grate is in good solid condition, with normal surface rust, dirt, and patina. There are no breaks, cracks, or other structural damage.
