Antique E. Paillard & Cie Maelzel Metronome, Made in Switzerland

Beautiful, antique, wooden metronome, made in Switzerland by E. Paillard & Cie for Maelzel. Case is made from mahogany with metal face plate, marked Maker's Mark found on the metal baseplate on the inside is Imprinted with a symbol of a cross through a horn, and above this the words, "Marque Deporsee". Serial number, 136587, is found below the Maker on metal base plate inside, metronome was made between 1866-1880.

E. Paillard & Company was one of the smaller companies to make metronomes for Maelzel. Started in 1814, E. Paillard & Co. was known for making watches, clocks and mechanical music boxes. In the early 1900's the company later started making spring motors, disc gramophones branded "Maestrophone", and typewriters under the name, "Hermes" and then later on manufactured cameras, radios and radiograms. The company was known to be one of the largest manufacturers of spring motors in Europe.

Measures 4 1/2" square at the bottom, and stands 9" tall.

Metronome is in good condition with no structural damage. Some minor scratches, scuffs and wear consistent with age and previous use. Metronome does work, not sure how long it accurately keeps time.
