This is a handcrafted, antique wooden barn beam dowel peg mallet, circa 1940's. This tool was used by barn builders to drive the wooden dowel pins through the structural beams as the barn was being constructed. Primitive mallets like this one, are still used today by some barn builders in the Amish communities, throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio. Mallet head measures approximately 5-1/2" long x 3" wide. The total length including the head and handle is approx. 15".
Mallet is in very nice condition with no structural damage. Scuffs, dings, and imperfections are present, as expected with vintage, previously owned tools.
A fantastic primitive tool, perfect addition to your collection.
