Antique Late 1800's Bicycle Lantern Car Carriage Light, Howard & Morse?

This is an antique, late 1800's Bicycle Lantern, with red and green jewels on the sides. "H" is embossed on the top of the lantern, and "Made in USA" is embossed wick knob. "Pat'd Mar. 30 '97" embossed on mounting bracket. It is believed to have been made by Howard & Morse, but we have not been able to confirm this.
It measures 3" wide x 3-1/2" deep x 7-1/2" tall including the handle.
Condition: This lamp is in good solid condition as shown in photos, with age appropriate cosmetic wear. Glass is missing from the front.
