Very nice, sweetgum leaf, pottery bowl from Stephen Day of Petrified Forest Pottery. Made by applying various colors to clay, pressing leaves into then clay, then firing in the kiln, creating a unique and beautiful piece of art.
Stephen Day utilizes a technique called, Shibumi a Japanese art form that emphasizes oneness between the artist, nature and materials used.
Using materials found from local trees found in Pennsylvania, the leaves are pressed into the clay, fired and the leaf burns off leaving a beautiful imprint.
Signed on the bottom, SD.
Measures approximately 10-1/2" across x 2" tall.
Bowl is in good condition with no chips, cracks or breaks. As with any unique, handmade item, flaws and imperfections may be noted.
