Beautiful, etched, Santa Clara Pueblo, black, pottery pot. Each pot is handmade, by coiling clay, mixing with temper and shaping into a pot, then polished and etched. Pot is unsigned.
This small pot is etched with the creature, "Avanyu", a water serpent with a rippling body and lightning coming from his mouth. This classic design represents water and rain clouds and is used often in Santa Clara pottery because of the importance of water to the Pueblo People.
Measures approximately 3" across widest part and about 2 -1/4" across the top, x 2-3/8" tall
Pot is is in good condition with minor wear, no chips, cracks or breaks noted. As with any unique, handmade item, flaws and imperfections may be noted.
Great addition for any collector of fine pottery.
