This is a RARE, vintage, 1950's, Fenton "Silver Rose Crest" Basket. Beautiful basket is pink, milk glass with a clear glass crimped edge and a clear glass handle. This style of glassware basket is often referred to as a Bride's Basket or Wedding Basket, originating from the late 1800's tradition of giving a decorated basket to the bride as a wedding gift.
From 1941 through 1970, Fenton made many "Crest" patterns and variations on the patterns. The first one starting in 1941, used white milk glass with a clear glass edge (originally crystal), called "Silver Crest".
In the mid to late 1940's the milk glass pieces were edged with various colored crests, "Aqua Crest", "Gold Crest", Rose Crest" and later, "Blue Crest". Then, Fenton starting making "Peach Crest", which was ruby glass with a milk glass overlay and a clear edge.
Next, in the 1950's, the "Snowcrest" line was created. From 1950-1953, Fenton reversed the colors, using white milk glass on the edges of clear, colored glass which included; Ruby, Amber, Emerald and Blue.
Finally, in 1956, Fenton started making "Silver Rose Crest" and "Silver Turquoise Crest" patterns. The "Silver Rose Crest" was pink or rose colored milk glass with a clear edge or "Silver Crest" and was made between 1956-1959.
Pieces made in this pattern are much harder to find than the other "Crest" patterns. "Silver Rose Crest" (pink milk glass with a clear edge) is different from "Rose Crest" (white milk glass with a pink, clear glass edge), "Peach Crest" or "Ruby Snowcrest", although many people use these names interchangeably.
Measures approximately 7" across widest point and 5" across handle ends. Basket is 7" tall including handle.
This unusual basket is in excellent, vintage, previously owned condition. There are no cracks, chips or breaks noted. One edge of the handle has a rough spot where it was snipped off during production.
This very pretty, rare, glass basket is perfect to hold candy, dried flowers or just display alone.
