Great set of vintage, forged iron, pitching / throwing Quoits. Similar to the tossing game, Horseshoes, it is believed that quoits were played as early as the 15th century. The first quoits were apparently made from horseshoes. Rubber quoits, or "indoor" quoits, became popular in the 1930's as a game played on cruise ships. Metal / Iron quoits continued to be popular as an outside, yard game and are still played today.
This set was made for "Joe the Motorists' Friend", a small chain of stores in the east coast that was popular in the 1920's and 1930's.
The two red quoits are marked "A" and the two black quoits are marked, "B". All four say, "Joe The Motorists' Friend" on the back. They are also marked 2-1/2 lbs.
Measurements: Each quoit measures 5-3/4" across, and weighs 2-1/2 lbs.
Quoits are in good, vintage condition with expected wear, scuffs, scratches and paint loss, from use and age.
Perfect gift for anyone who loves vintage games or remembers, "Joe The Motorists' Friend" stores, own a unique piece of history, and have fun at the same time!
