Vintage, ceramic Stork Club nut dish or ashtray. Made of ceramic and painted black with a glossy glaze, "Stork Club" is embossed on three sides and painted white.
Dish is from the infamous, "Stork Club" that was located in Manhattan, New York City, NY., and founded by Sherman Billingsley in 1929. The club was known to cater to the wealthy elite including movie stars, political and social celebrities. The club closed in 1965 following issues between the union, club workers and the Stork Club owner, Billingsley, that resulted in decreased clientele.
Measures approximately 3" x 3" x 3/8" tall
Dish is in good condition with expected minor wear, scuffs and scratches with one tiny chip on the top of one letter "B". There are some small unglazed spot defects and a defect on one letter "R" that are a result of the manufacturing process. No other chips, cracks or breaks noted.
Very collectible piece of New York history.
